ProductBase game AppID 306910; Demo 4488770 and public tests are labeled separately VersionComing Soon base game; live Demo and announced October 2026 Alpha PlatformSteam on Windows

Vaultbreakers is currently easiest to understand as three related but different things: the unreleased base game on Steam, the free public Demo, and time-limited public tests. Start with the Demo if you want to play now. Use the base-game page to wishlist the eventual release. Treat Alpha schedules and test mechanics as dated information, because access, balance, maps, and progress rules can change between clients.

Current answer, checked October 10, 2026: the base game is AppID 306910 and still says “To be announced.” The playable Demo is the separate AppID 4488770. The announced Alpha PvPvE window runs from October 15 at 10:00 CEST through October 21 at 23:59 CEST, but the public announcement does not identify its delivery AppID. Do not assume the historical Playtest AppID is the Alpha client.

Choose the right place to start

Play now

Install the Vaultbreakers Demo from AppID 4488770. It contains PvE, two playable heroes, part of Wolfswood, an upgradable Haven, onboarding and main quests through the first Vaultbreak, and co-op with up to two friends.

Prepare for Alpha

Use the official announcement for the October window. Demo progress is announced to carry into this Alpha, but the exact Alpha client and post-test reset rules still need confirmation when access opens.

Follow full release

Wishlist AppID 306910. Steam lists the release as “To be announced.” BetaDwarf has discussed a 2027 aim, but that is not a fixed date or a promise of a particular month.

Check a changing rule

Use the Updates timeline before relying on a test date, hero availability, progress carryover, system requirement, or known issue. Those fields are more volatile than the basic game identity.

Product and progress boundaries

The base game, Demo, and historical Playtest appear as related Steam products, but they are not interchangeable. A store feature on AppID 4488770 does not automatically prove the final behavior of AppID 306910. An old guide written for the Playtest can still explain why players ask about a system, but it should not be used as a current route or balance reference without a fresh in-client check.

Product
Use it for
Do not assume
Base game 306910
Release status, official premise, advertised PvE/PvPvE scope, wishlist and future launch.
That a public launch date, final price, console list, or final balance has been announced.
Demo 4488770
Current playable PvE, Nymera, Bjornir, part of Wolfswood, Haven, quests, co-op, and Legacy Points.
That ordinary Demo progress carries to full release or that all Alpha content is included.
Historical Playtest 1851490
Explicitly dated older test history.
That it delivers the October Alpha or matches the live Demo.

Legacy Points are the important exception to the ordinary Demo reset boundary. The Demo store says Legacy Points carry after launch, while ordinary Demo progress does not and may reset before release. BetaDwarf also says Demo progress carries into the October Alpha. Read those as two separate promises: Demo-to-Alpha carryover for this test episode, and Legacy Point persistence beyond launch. Neither statement makes every item, quest, building upgrade, or character level permanent.

A practical first-session route

Install the Demo from its own Steam page, then confirm the title and AppID in the library rather than launching an old Playtest shortcut. Before entering Wolfswood, look through the available settings, choose an input method, and check the mission or difficulty description shown by the current client. The store lists full Xbox-controller support for the Demo, while the unreleased base listing currently says partial controller support; rely on the client you are actually running.

In the opening quests, prioritize understanding the loop over collecting everything. Learn how the game sends you from Haven into a mission, how quest markers and the map communicate direction, what the current extraction prompt looks like, and what returns with you. The official Demo scope reaches the first Vaultbreak, so you can follow the main quest until that milestone without assuming later Journeys or Alpha-only locations are available.

When combat starts, observe an enemy before committing to a long attack. The official description emphasizes preparation, positioning, timing, and moments of vulnerability. That supports a deliberate loop: identify a cue, avoid or answer the sequence, take a short punish, then reassess. It does not support an invented universal combo or fixed “best” weapon. Use Combat for difficulty and engagement choices.

Back in Haven, compare what the game marks as equipment, crafting material, quest item, building input, or persistent reward. Avoid salvaging an unfamiliar item merely to clear space. The October notes say item markers and tooltips have been improved, but recipes and economy values are patch-sensitive. Use Gear before making expensive assumptions about rarity or long-term value.

Demo, Alpha, and launch decisions

The Demo is the lowest-risk way to decide whether the top-down extraction loop suits you. It is PvE-only, can be played solo, and supports the player plus up to two friends. It offers only part of the first map and two heroes, so it should be judged as an onboarding slice rather than the final content total. The base game advertises both PvE and PvPvE with shared progression; the announced Alpha is the next public opportunity to test the PvPvE side.

If you prefer avoiding rival players, the Demo gives a direct current answer: play its PvE mode. If you are curious about higher-risk competition, wait for the Alpha client to open and verify its actual queue, access route, server options, and progress behavior. Do not follow an older key guide unless the current official flow sends you there. The live Demo is free and publicly downloadable; Steam keys, gift codes, Twitch Drops, and test invitations are separate mechanisms.

For full release, keep expectations narrow. Steam confirms Windows support and a “To be announced” date. The developer FAQ discusses broader PC and console ambitions and a current premium-release plan that may change, but it does not establish specific console store products, cross-play, cross-save, editions, or a final price. Wait for a platform holder or official store listing before planning around any of those features.

Where to verify changing information

Use the base Steam page for AppID 306910, release state, supported operating system, advertised modes, and the eventual purchase button. Use the Demo Steam page for AppID 4488770, the playable slice, Demo limits, controller metadata, and system requirements. Use BetaDwarf’s announcement page for the Alpha schedule and Demo-to-Alpha carryover. Use the official patch index for dated changes, known issues, hero availability, balance, and client-specific features.

Community pages are useful for discovering follow-up questions, but they can combine older tests with the Demo or Alpha. Before following a route, check whether it names the product, date, map scope, and test episode. A guide that only says “current build” is not enough when several public clients have existed.

Common mistakes and recovery

  • If Steam opens the base page with no install button, switch to the separate Demo page rather than searching for an unofficial download.
  • If a guide names Project F4E, Changelings, or an old Artifact Refinery route, treat it as historical until the current client confirms the same location and terminology.
  • If your Demo progress appears missing, first confirm you launched AppID 4488770 and the same Steam account. Remember that the store warns ordinary Demo progress may reset.
  • If an Alpha access instruction claims AppID 1851490 with certainty, wait for the October opening or a first-party link. The delivery client was unresolved as of this check.
  • If system requirements conflict, use the dated warning in Tech: the Demo store still shows DirectX 11 while the October patch notes say DX11 is no longer supported.
