The public Vaultbreakers Demo includes Haven, part of Wolfswood, onboarding and main quests through the first Vaultbreak. The October Alpha notes name additional Journeys, Vaults, bosses, hazards, and travel systems, but those are not automatically reachable in the Demo. Plan routes from the map and quest state shown by the client you launched.

Build a route from the current objective
Start in Haven by selecting one mission goal: advance the main quest, learn a system, find a named material, reach the first Vaultbreak, or practice extraction. Read the objective and map before entering Wolfswood. A route is easier to evaluate when it has one success condition.
Once in the mission, confirm the first safe landmark and available extraction information. Follow quest markers without treating them as immunity from risk. Official notes have changed enemy placement, roads, map discovery, fog of war, portals, and local events. If an old screenshot disagrees with the live map, use the current terrain and marker.
Set a withdrawal condition. Leave after completing the objective, finding the protected item, losing essential recovery, taking wounds you cannot address, breaking important equipment, or entering a route you cannot identify. This keeps exploration from turning into an avoidable lost run.
Read Wolfswood by landmarks and danger
The Demo guarantees only part of Wolfswood. July notes name expanded areas such as Pinecrest Farm, Pinecrest Village, a Scrat Invasion, Bandit Enclave, and South Vault Crash, plus enterable houses and revised patrols. Those names help orientation, but they do not prove every landmark is accessible from every Demo quest state.
Use landmarks in pairs: where you are and where you can retreat. Before entering a building, cave, narrow road, or event space, identify the last open area and listen for roaming threats. The official game description emphasizes choosing which fights to take. Map knowledge is therefore about safe information, not simply reaching every icon.
Do not reuse the removed older Playtest map as a current route. Older community material can reveal the questions players ask, but world layout, portals, patrols, quests, and the Artifact Refinery have changed across tests.
Handle hazards and dynamic events
Official notes name electrical floors, electrical gates, brittle walls, switch doors, Scrat drawbridges, darkness, corruption, poison, traps, exploding Cacti, rituals, and dynamic events. Not every hazard belongs to the Demo slice. When one appears, identify its warning, affected area, trigger, recovery route, and whether the objective requires crossing it.
Avoid guessing a universal counter. A current tooltip, quest prompt, nearby interaction, or clearly demonstrated item should support the response. If an old guide prescribes a consumable, confirm that item exists in the current client and that the hazard has not been reworked.
In co-op, call the hazard before using an interaction that changes the route. Doors, switches, portals, and events can separate a party or begin combat. Regroup first, then decide who activates the mechanic.
Enemies, Chosen, and bosses
October notes rename Changelings to Chosen of Maldrakor and describe them as reactive roaming threats that can sense noisy activity while still allowing players to hide in grass. The update adds audio intended to warn players before the Chosen arrive. If a guide uses the old name, date it rather than assuming every other detail remains current.
The Demo leads to the first Vaultbreak, but October names Necronus and Wreckytitan for Alpha content. Keep those encounter identities separate. Do not publish a Demo boss route for an Alpha-only boss, and do not transfer an older test’s attack timing or reward table without a current clear.
When meeting an unfamiliar enemy, preserve an exit, observe the first sequence, and avoid backing into unexplored terrain. Record the client, area, difficulty, party size, and quest state before turning the observation into advice.
Haven is the route’s other half
Haven is not just a menu between runs. The Demo describes it as upgradable, while public notes connect it to buildings, NPCs, crafting, storage, backpack space, progression bonuses, and social features. A successful route should end with a clear Haven action: repair, store, craft, learn a recipe, spend an upgrade, organize the party, or choose the next objective.
Use the Haven Guide for the preparation loop. If an upgrade or building is missing, follow current quests and map markers instead of assuming the Demo has every Alpha feature.
Separate Demo and Alpha discoveries
Create a simple record before sharing a route: product name, AppID when known, date, region, difficulty, party size, objective, starting landmark, and extraction result. For the Alpha, add the exact client once the official flow reveals it. This prevents a Demo route, historical Playtest route, and Alpha route from becoming one inaccurate map.
Treat named locations as unavailable until the current client exposes them. A patch note can confirm that a place exists in planned Alpha content without proving its spawn, access requirement, or final layout. Recheck after test opening and again at launch.
Common navigation failures
- Following an Alpha location name in the Demo: confirm the product and quest scope before traveling.
- Treating an older Playtest map as current: use the live map, discovery state, and terrain.
- Entering a narrow area without a retreat landmark: identify the last open space first.
- Triggering an event while the party is in menus: regroup and agree before interacting.
- Extending a run after the objective is complete: use a preselected extraction condition.
- Calling Changelings and Chosen two current enemy groups: Chosen of Maldrakor is the newer official name.
